  • Schooner Anse La Roche

    July 9, 2025

The Admiral and I enjoyed a delightful evening aboard Schooner Anse La Roche with Captain Kevin of Sail Anacortes. It was pleasantly calm in Fidalgo Bay. Clouds to the west obscured sunset, but the moonrise to the east was spectacular. Good conversation with the captain and fellow passengers. If you’re visiting Anacortes, this sunset sail is a must. And if you’re a local who hasn’t sailed aboard Anse La Roche, you don’t know what you’re missing.

  • Sea Trial: 1985 Celestial 48

    July 1, 2025

I captained a Celestial 48 for a sea trial today. Classic plastic from the ‘80s. Ted Brewer design so you know it works offshore. Long keel. Heavy, solid build. Adequate tankage. Handling reminded me of the Whitby 42, another old-school Brewer blue water cruiser. Fun!

The Salish Sea boasts 250+ species of fish. You can sea many of them at the aquarium in Vancouver, British Columbia, including this nice white sturgeon.
